What is the validity of the Jamaican Passport?
The Jamaican Passport is valid for 10 years for an adult and five years for children 17 years and under.

What is the cost to renew a passport?
The cost is €135.00for adults and €105.00 for children 17 years and under.  The Consulate General only accepts CASH and MONEY ORDERS.  Personal cheques and credit cards are NOT accepted.

How long does it take to process the passport?
Because all passport processing is being done at the passport office in Jamaica, it takes APPROXIMATELY 4 to 6 WEEKS from the date your application is approved as complete.

What documents should I present if I am an adult applying for a passport for the first time?
All first time applicants MUST appear in person! Original birth certificate, supplementary ID (Driver’s Licence, State ID etc) and two photographs, one of which should be certified by the certifying official who signed the application form. Click here for a full details.

Who can certify the application form and photographs?
Notary Public, Honorary Consul and a Consular Officer at the Consulate General.

Is the old birth certificate accepted?
Yes, the original copies of the old birth certificate as well as the new birth certificates are accepted for passport applications providing all information is clearly legible.

Why do I need a birth certificate if I am renewing my passport?
The birth certificate is required to establish the database of the new passport issuance system and to aid in verifying the identity of each individual.

Why is the Supplementary ID required if I am applying for a passport for the first time or replacing my passport?
It is needed to prove the identity of the applicant beyond reasonable doubt.

Do I need to give my thumbprint?
No, it is only required for persons who are unable to write.

How do I add my married name to my machine readable passport?
If you already hold a machine-readable passport, your married name CANNOT be added to that passport. In order for your married name to be included, you will have to apply for another machine-readable passport, supplying your marriage certificate along with the other required documentation. Can I travel anywhere in the world with the old format passport although the new machine-readable passports are now being issued in Jamaica?
Yes. All countries around the world have been advised by the Government of Jamaica that the old format and the new machine-readable passports are equally valid for travel anywhere in the world. Due notice will be given whenever a decision is taken to withdraw the old format passport.
